How to reheat and store scones
Keep them airtight in the fridge. A few of these are worth trying on purpose, not just for keeping. Everything below is how we keep and serve our own — small-batch scones baked each morning in the Klang Valley, butter and flour and an overnight rest, nothing added to make them last longer than they honestly do.

How to reheat scones
| Kept | What to do |
|---|---|
| From the fridge | Heat at 180°C in an oven or air fryer, 3 minutes. |
| Microwave — if you must | 10–15 seconds, no more. It warms the crumb but softens the crust; only the oven's three minutes brings that back. |
| From the freezer | Thaw 30 minutes at room temperature, then 3 minutes at 180°C. |
| Earl Grey, Lemon and Matcha, chilled | One minute at 180°C. Warm on the outside, still cold in the middle — that is how they are meant to be eaten. |
| Earl Grey, Lemon and Matcha, frozen | Thaw 30–40 minutes, until the filling softens, then one minute at 180°C. |
If you are spreading jam, reheat first and cut afterwards.
How to reheat scones from the fridge
Take them out cold and reheat them as they are — nothing needs thawing first. Heat at 180°C in an oven or air fryer, 3 minutes. That is what brings the crust back. Earl Grey, Lemon and Matcha are the exception: one minute at 180°C, so the outside warms while the cream cheese centre stays cold.
Reheat scones in the oven
Heat at 180°C in an oven or air fryer, 3 minutes. Straight from the fridge, uncovered, on a tray rather than in foil — a cold scone going into a hot oven is what crisps the outside again, and wrapping it steams the surface you are trying to dry.
Warm scones in an air fryer
The same heat and the same time as the oven — 180°C for 3 minutes. The basket sits closer to the element than an oven shelf does, so look at the top near the end rather than walking away from it. No preheating worth waiting for.
Heat scones in the microwave
10–15 seconds, no more. It warms the crumb but softens the crust; only the oven's three minutes brings that back. It is the answer for an office with neither of the other two, not the one to choose at home.
How to store scones
Airtight, and the container matters more than the shelf. What takes a scone apart is air, not time — left uncovered in the fridge it dries out faster than a wrapped one goes stale on the counter.
Airtight in the fridge, three to five days. Airtight in the freezer, three to four weeks, frozen while they are still fresh rather than after a few days of keeping. Either way they come back the same way: heat at 180°C in an oven or air fryer, 3 minutes.
How long do scones last?
Ours are baked in the morning and carry no preservatives, so they keep like something made that day — well for a few days, and not indefinitely. Airtight is the part that matters most: an uncovered scone loses moisture to the fridge faster than it goes stale on its own.
The first two rows below answer different questions. One is how long they are still good to eat; the other is how long they still taste the way they did on the morning they came out of the oven.
| Storage | How long |
|---|---|
| Best flavour | 2–3 days refrigerated |
| Refrigerated | 3–5 days |
| Frozen | 3–4 weeks |
| Thawing — what we recommend | 6–8 hours in the fridge, or overnight, for the creamiest texture |
| Semi-frozen | 30 minutes at room temperature, for something closer to ice cream |
Can you freeze scones?
Yes, and it is the better option if you know you will not finish them. Three to four weeks, wrapped airtight.
Freeze them while they are still fresh rather than after several days in the fridge — freezing holds a scone where it is, it does not take it back to where it was.
How to thaw frozen scones
Six to eight hours in the fridge, or simply overnight. It is slower than leaving them on the counter and it is the reason the texture comes back creamy rather than damp.
The cream cheese flavours want one minute, not three
Earl Grey, Lemon and Matcha are filled with cream cheese, and they are not after the same three minutes as the others. One minute at 180°C is the whole instruction: the outside warms, the centre stays cold, and that contrast is the point of them rather than something to work around.
Frozen, thaw them thirty to forty minutes at room temperature first — you are waiting for the filling to soften, not for the scone to warm through — then give them the same minute.
Stopped before the oven, at the point the filling has just softened, they are closer to ice cream than to a scone — worth trying on purpose rather than only as a way of using up what is left. Original and Cranberry are the ones that want the full three minutes.
Nothing beats the morning it was baked.
Everything here is about keeping a scone close to what it was on the day. Ordering one baked to the day you collect skips the problem entirely — everything is pre-order.
